dear diary: jean cocteau

Silence moves faster

when it's going backward.

Jean Cocteau

Looking back and making an attempt to
visualize all the things that made me
what I am today, Jean Cocteau made
a very early impression, although I
never made the connection.

Back in the day, the PBS channel, KQED
in San Francisco, had many interesting
programs. They showed foreign films,
before I was old enough to make any
distinction between them and any other
types of film making.

Of course, Beauty and The Beast from the 30s
is the film that is still my favorite today.
Since most people have seen it, I won't
explain why.

Recently, we finally saw the Orpheus Trilogy,
and, if you're not a "crash and burn" film watcher,
have patience, and can visualize, these films
seen in their order, are well worth seeing.

The following song, I had to get out of my system.
I can't remember who it is, as I never wrote it
down, but after the Muppet song a few days
ago, what can I say?

I loved Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast. All tears should turn into diamonds.

robin: That sequence, the arms coming out from the wall with the candles and going out after she walked by, the faces around the fire place, the eyes watching, pure genius and magic! ; )

mary: Glad you liked the song.

I like this Cocteau quote.

"Art produces ugly things which frequently become more beautiful with time. Fashion, on the other hand, produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time." -
-- Jean cocteau

Thank Lisa for the letter about the coverlet. We are heavy into swimming pool removal, right now, will email later.

Coffee, keep the candle of hope alive. There are strong winds coming, and the gathering darkness.

Cheers!

Bonjour Coffee,

Splendid rasping voice. Makes me think a little of one of the Dubliners in case you know the group.

As to Cocteau, well I am a bit astonished. He was "spirituel" meaning he was able to make witty answers. Like "vivre est une chute horizontale" = life is a horizontal fall.

Quite possible I am wrong but I had always the impression that he was just witty but no depth attached to it.

weezie: I believe it's called being ambidextrous! ; )

blue:Same here! ; )

ruby: Thank You! ; )

earl: Ain't that the truth? !

daniel: Yes, of course!

anok: Remember the Sufaris I think? It was on a comp of all crazy songs!

georg:I don't know, from what I've read, yes, he was witty in a strange way, but also had alot of depth and perception too!

Good stuff all around; music, imagery, and the words. Always delightful to stop in and rest for a spell!
