Tea Plantation, somewhere in Asia

In dwelling, live close to the ground.
In thinking, keep to the simple.
In conflict, be fair and generous.
In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present.

Lao Tzu

In 1990, I heard a song by Adrian Belew
that had a rap in it, by someone called
Prophet Omega.

In 1998, I heard the same rap, but used by
another artist, named Conrad Praetzel.
(you can hear his version on his site)

And that started a search about
this mysterious Prophet Omega.

I finally came up with a film by two
people in Nashville who made a
documentary about him.

He was a radio evangelist, who taped
stream of consciousness sermons, from
his apartment, which then was located
on Lemont Drive, in Nashville, Tn.

His sermons were carried on gospel station
WNAH-AM in the late '70s.

Somehow or another, tapes of these sermons
were distributed to musicians who traveled
on the road, and were listened to and shared.

Part of what you will hear, if you dare, is
what has been used in the two songs I
have heard and are favorites, simply
because of the spirit he exudes in
his talks/sermons.

I have some others, one is a Christmas
show with ads he does for a moving company.
There is another CD somewhere here that
has some other of his talks.

I've understood there is a
double CD of his Complete Sermons.

Does anyone out there have it and want to share?

I'm a curious sort, and do not follow anyone,
anything, anytime. I believe though if I
had heard and been in the area I certainly
would have gone to his apartment to meet
him. This type of person is what makes
this crazy world such an interesting place to live.
(and give me some of your spirit)

I really enjoyed that, CM. Thanks! Never heard of this guy before, but I like him. I am what I am, too.

dcb: Not sure about exact whereabouts, although it is a Tea Plantation somewhere in Asia, that I know for sure. This was going to be a Tea post, but morphed into this instead.

h:Yes, it's a powerful, and simple message, is it not? ; )

Dennis would like to run in that tea field. Dennis is a tea drinker.

Interesting post, coffee. I've never heard of the Prophet Omega. I am not a believer, but I am what I am, seems simple enough.

dennis: Yes, that field looks perfect for a cat to run through.

robin:I found it quite interesting that many top name musicians shared these tapes while on the road. The message is positive and that's what I like to hear. Still not enough to follow anyone though! ; (

ssn: You're Welcome! ; )

alexys: I'll stop by over the weekend. ; )

Wow, that was fantastic. I hope you find the 2CD set and post more. He is amazing. Who is he? Is he still around?

I had to put a “think” on for “I am what I am”. That might define what I am now; but being an evolving creature it doesn’t necessarily define what I will be

cathy: I need to watch the video again. He's deceased. He did do the show out of his apartment and invited people to come there when he did the show. Not sure many would attempt it these days. I enjoy hearing him talk and hope to find that set one day.

catana:I understand what you are saying. Of course, it isn't that you "just are" but to me, that despite what others say or do, manipulations or whatever, you're not defined except by your own thoughts and actions.

Sometimes to "think" hurts! ; )
Thanks for popping by!

Wow! I'm shocked to see someone blog about the Prophet Omega.

lt: Hi there. Why are you shocked? Good, bad or indifferent?

I haven't heard about Omega Townsend in years. There's a site I'm sure you know about that offer the tapes of Omega Townsend one is Omega Townsend and Belew did a post on him and does a lot of samples of his voice. There's so much out there with others that record with his voice in their music can be founded and downloaded free.

I'm just shocked that others not in the music business knows about Omega Townsend.

I do know of one site with his daughter and someone else releasing some of his tapes that his family didn't throw away or destroy after his death. I'll try to find it and get back with you.

let's talk: Thanks, the two links I do already know about. The double CD and anything else, I do not know. Thanks for the info though and look forward to hearing about anything else if it happens to come your way.
Cheers!

I have the Belew CD with the Prophet Sampling on it. Last night on XM, I heard a band called "The Orb" sample Prophet Omega. The song was called "The Truth Is". That peaked my interest because I could tell it was the same guy that was sampled on the Belew CD. So today I was surfing for info and found this blog. Very interesting!
