Thanks again to all the people who were so
kind to me while in NC for 3 weeks.

And a special Thanks to Jean, who not only
likes stronger coffee, but took it on herself
to make some for me every day I was there! ; )

Thanks too 4 this card!

Promise me you'll always remember:

You're braver than you believe,

and stronger than you seem,

and smarter than you think.

Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

Before I left for the work related trip, I was contacted
through email, asking if I'd like to receive the above
book, to be released in June this year, about the
excellent pianist Glenn Gould.

Just so you know, if you're looking in,
I did receive it while gone and it is next
in line to read. I will give a short review
once I finish.

Reading the outer cover on the back, it appears
and most people who knew him, thought he was
a bit strange because of some habits.

While growing up, my next door neighbor was
a jazz pianist, who also took me to Keystone Korner
in SF while I was still underage, to see people like
Dexter Gordon, Leon Thomas & the Heath Brothers.
He also was the pianist in the play/musical by
Jon Hendricks called "Evolution Of The Blues."

Since he made his living playing the piano, he did
have to be careful with his hands. So, sometimes
what most people take for granted, he was careful with.

Although, Glenn Gould did have some quirks.

And Thank You for the chance to read this book
before it comes out. I will email you as soon as I finish.

tony: Yes indeed, on all counts! ; )

dennis: Thanks! Do you want me to send you the book with the CD when I send it? I'll be through with it by then. Book is scheduled to be out mid June I believe!

annie: Todd Barkin seemed to have a money flow problem, but the musicians still came. BTW, it was a beautiful, intimate club!

I did some searching about Glenn Gould on the internet. Very interesting. So many troubled geniuses die young.

Don't send Dennis anything.

I had the Winnie the Pooh records when I was a kid, and when I think of Pooh, I always think of Sebastian Cabot's voice as the narrator.

Many with the talent of Gould are viewed as "strange" since their talents often override their sicial graces.

Welcome home.
There's nothing like a long road trip, a visit to a new "country" and then coming home. Home. Wherever that may be.

I have to admit I've never listened to Glenn Gould. Now I'm going to have to find some of his music online. Any recommendations?

merle: Wish I knew what it was like to be a genius at something! ; (

dcb: ; (

kurt: Those were the days, weren't they?

larry: There's much truth in that for sure!

cathy: Thanks and oh so true!

robin: Although familiar with the name and know I have heard some of his music way back when, I can't really say anything in particular.

The movie "Shine" was about him though. Once I am through with the book, I will know how close to reality that movie really was.
