THEME THURSDAY = WINGS
He who binds to himself a joy
doth the winged life destroy.
But he who kisses the joy as it
flies lives in Eternity's sunrise.
William Blake
I was surprised to learn rather late in life,
that to fear "wings" or to attempt something different or
outside the norm of a relatively comfortable
life, could be achieved.
For reasons best left unexplained here,
I grew up feeling that way, and then, after a few
years of interaction with L before we even met in person,
I did something I felt and believed in,
and never would have done before and never felt afraid,
or that I made the wrong decision.
13 years later, we both continue on roads neither
one of us ever would have taken in our former lives.
In a nutshell, if you happen to be someone
not used to freeing yourself to do something different
and worries about it, don't. Somehow, even if it isn't
a perfect road, for some reason,
whatever transpires seems to work anyway.

Very inspirational! And something I'm trying to do, so your words hit home.
I need to read more poetry. It's a nice feeling to look back at former lives from a current good life. (not that former lives were bad, just not the same) growing up is one life, maybe two, then you get a few more, maybe. I can't imagine living one long life, in the same place with all of the exact same people. there's something nice about how things come and go.
For some reason this reminded me of Kahlil Gibran -- there must have been something he wrote about wings, he was so popular when i was in high school. a third of the kids had a copy of the prophet.
thanks for the blake - words and image...I love blake - he's brilliant. have your read burning bright, a novel by tracy chevalier? blake is one of the characters in it...
kudos to you and l for taking the leap ..... taking such a step is true liberation!! happy flying wherever you go! it doesn't matter as long as you be here now!
I was afraid to leave my teaching job, but I did it! Now I'm an unemployed loser. Things DO work out the way they're supposed to.
when somethings gotta give then somethings gotta give--that's my motto. maybe.
You can't be afraid to live, son. Good for you.
Nice blog's theme!
t & t: Good Luck to you. It's not that hard either. ; )
ched: When we had our coffeehouse, we knew a couple who drove by at the same times everyday, went to the same places, year in, and year out, and with the same people they'd meet. They still do. Very strange we thought never to deviate.
kimy: I read about the book and will seek it out. Looks as if her other books are interesting also. Thanks!
kurt: But look at you now? ! ; )
taco:Of course!
hugh: Thanks for that.
g c & t: Thanks for stopping by.
it can be very transformative to realise you do, after all, have the ability to do the unexpected and un-customary..
Very nicely put, the quote and your words that follow. Good advice. Words of wisdom. Like the painting, too. (Who else could illustrate Blake better?)
lettuce: Sadly, at least here in the usa, society takes it's toll....that is, mainstream. All the otthers, remain hidden. We too are the hidden types.
decker: Thanks for that! ; )
