Mt Carroll, Illinois

By the late 18th century, Brazil, no longer under
Portuguese colonial rule, supplied the world's
coffee demand of 294,000 tons.

For the first time since the Dutch
had wrestled control over the coffee trade
in the Middle East from the Arabs,
another nation, Brazil, the king of coffee countries,
ruled the "old" coffee world.

Down the street from the town square, was
this unusual mail box, with two unique
older gents. The box is used for putting
your old torn flags in, and the VHF group
burns them for you.

Humor is everywhere in this town.

This is part of a Haunted House, but what caught our eyes
were the Tuxedo Cats.
Ched, Dennis and last but not least, Edward.

This is the Campbell Center school.
Campbell Center For Historic Preservation.

Not sure if you can tell, but on the bottom
right branch is a Squirrel. Sorry, it's a
cheap camera without a zoom lens. ; (

Tollman Hall where most of the classes are held.

Grapes.................

There were 3 benches overlooking a creek.

Sat, we saw a headline in the Galena paper that
Blackwater (yes, that Blackwater) was purchasing
a size-able amount of farm land for
a nice little rifle range.

sad about blackwater...

we have tuxedo cat operatives not just in every state, but in every township and village...in every hamlet. heck, in every condo complex!

I like the ride on lawn mower.

My coffee pot ( a french press) broke this morning (the handle came off and it was beyond repair.) I made coffee in it anyway, using oven mitts to pour it --not easy, but the coffee was still excellent. But it was an opportunity to get the type I'd had back in Brooklyn years ago--

I went out and got it this afternoon. which is why I am wide awake now.

I'm really happy with it though--It's one of those Bialetti stovetop espresso makers, and it fills the house with the aroma ... it's wonderful.

funny - and interesting - pictures. i like the lawn mower but don't think i'd like to use it.

i don't understand at all about the flag burning. VHF - is that to do with radio?

and Ravens Grin is a great name for a venue!

merle: We don't need any more Blackwater, period!

ched: I never realized about Tux cats.

squirrel: It was pretty silly. Too bad about the press, but sounds like you found a great replacement. Anything that fills your house with the smell of coffee is a plus.

lettuce: We have always been told, and mostly goes back to the older people, that when a flag touches the ground, you burn it, or when it tears and falls apart to do so also. Veteran groups seem to still do that. Sadly, the flag conjures no feelings like that in me, since it's simply colored cloth.

Nice photo montage; tuxedo cats do indeed infiltrate. I've agreed to adopt a third from someone who is acting as surrogate for a litter of kittens. A local shelter is full to bursting, and so they are trying to place some of the occupants to make room for more . . .

t & t: That's a nice gesture of yours.

kimy: There seems to be no way to escape these people and their killing thoughts anymore! ; (

kurt: )

joanne: At first I hesitated to take the picture. But it did give a good snicker, thinking of an easier way to mow a lawn anyway and gas free.
