THEME THURSDAY = HAND

from the internets

Is life so wretched?

Isn't it rather your hands which are too small,

your vision which is muddled?

You are the one who must grow up.

Dag Hammarskjold

==========================

Can some one bang me on the side of the head
and tell me what year this is?

Today, on a local radio station that is played
where I work, the local DJ started a discussion,
about the Bible, Revelation and how Obama
is the result, and how afraid he is of his
"may be" election.

There were a slew of calls agreeing with
this guy and of course, his preface was how
christian he is.

Amazingly, someone from our town
called the station to complain about
his racist remarks. Although he sort of
apologized, he still maintained he was afraid.
Negates the lame apology.

Why is anyone listening to all this hate
& fear mongering from the republican side?

Haven't we learned anything yet?

Recently in our neighborhood and perhaps
yours too, any and all Obama signs
have disappeared, but not the McCains.
A neighbor mentioned someone (s)
are going through at night and pulling
them. How absurd can you get?

I was looking for a certain Ledbelly song,
and can't find it. But here's:

Black, Brown & White
Big Bill Broonzy

fear and hate mongering - I just don't grok - AT ALL!

I'm so curious as to what song you were thinking of. I love ledbelly - but only album I have of his is "lead belly sings for children"....thank goodness for the smithsonian folkways music label!

wonderful quote from dag.

indiana and ohio they are saying are real 'battleground states' - I'm visualizing a massive O win in both!!!

Don't worry friends, Obama will win going away.

I'm sick of hearing this stuff.

kimy: I know the contents of the song, but not the title. Oh, and it isn't on the childrens album!

merle: I've never been for the 2 party system, even when I started to vote at 18 - Nixon/McGovern. 2 is not a choice. But, it seems when things get desperate, one side always turns to fear and hate, no matter what. And that I am overly tired of. It's a big world and there's room for getting along, not acting like a stubborn child who isn't getting their way.
Grrrrrrr......

Bonjour Coffee,

Thanks for the splendid song from Big Bill.

As to your written post, well, to tell the truth, as far as I know, the United States are nurturing a brand of Christianity that does not exist anywhere else.

The teachings of Christ are essentially, love your neighbor, don't judge, if someone slaps you in the face, show him your other cheek. But those Christians over there seem to much more in commun with the Saudi Muslims or the Taliban in Afghanistan/Pakistan.

Strange, isn't it.

Georg

Bonjour Georg! Their hypocrisy is heard loud and clear, sadly! ; (

Thanks for stopping by and hope all is well on your side of the world!

Cheers! ; )

I totally agree that we need a third party (at least), but I can never find anyone who agrees with me. And I'm getting tired of living in a so-called red state. A letter to the editor today extolled "gun toting, Bible thumping" (yes, that's a quote) Sarah Palin. Grrrr indeed.

maybe you'll find the song here:

(but thanks for the intro to Big Bill)

we have about zero mccain signs in our town! i seen 2 ron pauls prominently displayed at a crazy cat lady's house (hey at least she is a cat lady, right?) and 700 obama signs

edward said...

oh but there is a mccain decorated mailbox in my neighborhood i forgot!

Joanne said...

Not sure why, but both parties are requested to refrain from lawn signs where I live, and they respect it. It's kind of nice, actually.

America really is in deep...well, you know what.

I hope that the election achieves something but I'm not holding my breath. Sometimes, when something's broke, rather than try to patch it up it's better to throw it away and buy a new, different one.

Cheers from Down Under!

t & t: The whole red/blues state concept is getting very old, and stale. That negativity and not goals are issues is very depressing. Just goes to show the school yard mentality of those who want to rule the world. ; (

rlb: Thanks, I do know the song and have it on a mix disc somewhere here. I'll have to use it another time.

kurt: Unfortunately, like the Ma & Pa Kettle Goes To Hawaii, where I work feels that it helps to work better. Although it might work for most, it's overall very midwest and depressing to have to listen to. Thanks goodness we can bring Ipods.

tony: We'll see I guess. After the previous 2 elections, another surprise we may get yet again!
; (

edward:I think money is so tight out here, people can't even afford to purchase the signs, especially if they're getting ripped off, which is a crime in itself.

joanne: I'm neither for or against, although a sign would never change my reason for voting for someone. A choice should be there though, without others wanting yours to come down. What freedom eh? ; (

david: We shall see. Thanks for stopping by and Cheers to you and yours also!

it took me several minutes before i could post here. that quote just ....i dont know.... put things in perspective a bit. been cribbing about life in general....trying to figure out what path to take....

I like Dag. I used to work in a building on his Plaza.

n: We all start on a path, some stick to it, some blow with the wind. Having done the latter for the last 13 yrs, I have to say, I wish I did so earlier. Good Luck to you and I hope you are able to see an opportunity when it comes and take it and run with it. It may or may not work, but it takes you to levels you don't get to when you stick to a "plan" all the time. ; )

ched: I know so little about NY, I should not be surprised there was a building named after him there.
