I like the Neruda quote. And as much as I think I hate something, I find that 'tis just a matter of "I don't really care for something"( what-ever it may happen to be ). I choose to ignore, not abhor....
I wish I had subtorp's equanimity but I don't. I do my best to learn something about my value judgments and expectations when I feel hatred for something or for someone. I'm not always successful, nor am I always pleased with what I discover about myself but... c'est la vie, n'est-ce pas?
Hope you have a pleasant day, cm. I must admit, pleasant times are a lot more fun than hateful ones.
That's probably a rhetorical question, but...it's been my observation that it can be very reassuring to have an enemy, or enemies, to increase feelings of internal cohesion. I'm now going to admit that I was just reading on a political blog that some elements of the American polity would prefer to see Iran's current government stay in power simply because it would confuse/dilute the enmity to have someone more moderate in charge.
It's an awesome question on a great post. I don't know why we are so apt to hate and rage. I know it doesn't make anything better but we are so easily lured into doing just that. Wage peace. I love the thought of it.
why anything? I used to ask my father over and over why God allows things to happen and people to be so terrible to one another. Dad taught me to believe it is our choice. We make the choice. I think this is true.
Hi! C.M., Why Hate? Hmmm...What a good question to ask...not that I'am a "philosopher," but I think that the words "LoVe" and "HaTE"(Yes,the capitalize V and T are intentional) are two powerful words. ...and like other commenters mentioned...I think that the choice is up to you to whether to Love or Hate, be Kind or Unkind etc,etc,etc... Take care! DeeDee ;-D
also here to shamelessly promote my latest blog post which is shamelessly promoting a new charity project - please read it and if you feel able help advertise (or contribute in any other way) that would be FAB

I think hate feels good to some people.
I may be a grouch and a complainer, but hate requires too much trouble for the hater. The hatees rarely care.
