al jazzbeaux collins

Al Jazzbeaux Collins - Mad Magazine 1957

Al Jazzbeaux Collins came from a music station
in New York and ended up at a few stations in
in San Francisco. I first heard him while driving
to work at 2am on KGO talk radio. His intro
song was Count Basies "Blues In Hoss Flat."

Before he died, I heard there was going to
be a book written by or about him. I've not
seen anything, which is too bad, as his knowledge
of jazz was amazing.

Here are 2 cuts from 2 different albums.
The 1st is the Swearing in of the Bandidos
and the next is Goldilocks and the Three Bears
with Slim Gaillard.

He was an icon in the bay area radio scene.

And even hosted the Tonight Show
early on for a short while.

ArtSpark Theater sent an Alice and
here is my first try with her.
You need to turn the sound up.
I heard my first cricket last weekend.
Fall is just around the corner.

Cool artwork, great music. (That Goldilocks, she never was good at following instructions).

Alice sure gets around, doesn't she?

Cheers from Gaulhet, cm.

I vaguely remember Al Jazzbeaux Collins but don't know why as I grew up in L.A. He was probably syndicated and I heard him down there as I've always listened to jazz. Now you have piqued my interest and I'll do the research.

Great music, definitely not for the swizzle-stick set...
Alice once again showed the world her magic, or you did with the great background sound.
Cheers from the north of Portugal,CM

mum: He sure had fun and was always positive to listen to. Always ; )

cg: Not sure but he may have been piped around the usa. He was a delight to listen to and met him once at the then local theater. He was standing behind me ; )

celeste: Many may not know what a swizzle stick is anymore. But yes, not for their kind ; (

Hi C.M. Playing "catch-up". I saw this over at ArtSparker's place, via link and commented over there, as well! Took Alice for a ride yesterday but now have to get new photo 'ware to upload! GAH! This vid does have a great back-ground sound :)

Just had to turn up the Jazzbeaux on this one. Why does this sound so familiar? Stan Freberg comes to mind but he had no Jazz element in "Little Blue Riding Hood"( now that would've been interesting....fantastic stuff!

Ha I love those bespoke piggies! It just goes to show you, a good suit can make anyone look like a gentleman!

subT: Jazzbeaux was very into jazz, whereas SF was in it strictly for the comedy ; )

boomka: Hey thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

C.M., speaking of SF, I found all 15 episodes of his show, on playlist. Haven't started a jazz section as yet, but will be looking for some Jazzbeaux.

hey man,
Used to love Al's show out KCSM on Saturday nights like this...
I'm old now...what was it called
the Velvet Vault?
Also talked to him on the phone whe I was compiling my discography of the Beat Generation.
He was a blessing in his time,
so he's alive in our minds,
