Been thinking a lot while working about
intimidation. Not by anything in particular,
except being more free with being creative
and finally making the move into making
small handmade books, and expanding
from there. I look around though and see
so many fantastic works, that I'm still in
the "I'll start it soon" phase. You'd think,
as do I, that it would not hinder me, after
all these years, but it does.

Instead, I cut out lots of paper
images, and end up with the above.

your procrastination is at least entertaining. Keep up the good work...btw, there is a piece on homemade books and limited edition books on bibliOdyssee that you'd be interested in. It's on my blogroll.

If it gives you any joy, in any way whatsoever, pursue it or later on you will start to hear strange melodic songs echoing through the woods when you take those silent walks to clear the head. I hear that their sounds can drive you mad much like the Sirens of Greek mythology.
Let those other fantastic works inspire you instead of intimidate you.

Keep doing the (wonderful) collages. You'll get to a book. I get stymied in creativity too, so I can say that in confidence.
Ps - I think your website looks like a handmade book, always full of beautiful things to look at and themes that inspire thought!
I think I know where yr coming frm. But more and more I fear that blank canvas. I find it the most intimidating thing of all. Fellini speaks my mind when he says: "The greatest danger for an artist, is total freedom."

yes, I wish when I procrastinated I was that creative. Today, I'm screwing with blogger rather than working. I'm supposed to be selling but I just feel like writing. So I guess I am being creative as well.

This is the only blogsite I visit where I can honestly say I think about well after I leave. Of course this is a testament to the thought that goes on here, never really an easy way to respond with such an open-ended forum. And yeah, you are quite right to call for inspiration and condemn artistic intimidation. The images/collages/montages and visual motion does make this a singular place, but wedded to what you hope people will come away with, it's doubly worthwhile.
Of course for enlightment, who better than Voltaire?

Indoctrination has replaced thinking in the minds of most Americans.
Indoctrination is so comfortable. It never gives you a headache and it never pushes you off the lounge and makes you do something!
