To find the universal elements enough;

to find the air and the water exhilarating;

to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter,

to be thrilled by the stars at night;

to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring,

these are some of the rewards of the simple life.

Lovely road and lovely words. I miss my long walks in summer on village roads with all that greenery around me. Well, there's big city life for you....*sigh*

I love this passage. It reminds us to revel in the little miracles of life happening all around us every day.
We're going camping in Colorado next month and I can't wait to wake up to that awe~inspiring gift of beauty every day, with no cell phones, TVs or any other interuptions. Just nature.

~Nice Post!!

Yes, especially after a long winter.

John Burroughs is a very big deal in the Catskills-- you kind of feel his presence up there, because you appreciate the woods and stars so much when you're up there. He and I share a birthday as well.

He also hung out with a group of guys who loved to go camping and hang out have great talks--his gang included John Audubon, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Luther Burbank--they talked about everything and even did some yoga together-- they all met Calvin Coolidge who always loved listening ... Burbank introduced Coolidge to yoga and meditation. I can certainly picture Burroughs medtating.

phd g: Yep, nice days will follow.

damyanti: I assumed you wre in that environment.....

kimberly: Thanks!

merle: One among many! ; )

robin: We're ready too.....

dcb:Your Dad must have quite a collection. I have imagined those people and more, sitting without distractions, debating about life and their journey, in the great outdoors, when there was room to spare.

If only!

Thanks for sharing too! ; )

The photos and poem make me think how important it is that we take our kids on hikes, show them starry skies and teach them about wildlife rather than take them to the mall or McDonald's ball pit.

There sincerely is nothing better than nature...if you can find it.

What a lovely photo, what a lovely man. How is it we "forgot" him? That's just wrong.

SB? Hmmm. All I can say is PR won't do it if the product sucks.

phd g: Ha. ha, it's the
"wildlife" no matter where you go nowadays! ; (

tony: Do you want the short of it? No! ; ) Unless you go where people know how to roast and make correctly! ; )

mary: How does the saying go? I hear ya!

cathy: I've never seen a company attempt to re-invent what they do as often as SB. They simply should have never attempted to seel all those Frapps....it's been the death of them and the folks who drink them! How's the move?

I like the photos, especially the top one, which looks like something I might shoot. And the John Burroughs quote, he's hitting notes in my heart.

I went to the Consumerist for the Starbucks "debate." (the comments) That's hilarious, I must say.
