chicago too = weekend

Some life out of balance sequences.

If you've never seen these films
they're worth a viewing.

If you have an hour to spare,
see an amazing film, made
by Dziga Vertov in Russia,
in 1929. After purchasing and
watching this film, I could clearly
see that Reggio and others learned
their trade from what they saw here.

Dziga also wrote the music for the film,
that was played at that time in theaters,
live. The re-release has the Cinematic
Orchestra playing the soundtrack and
it's very good.

I also forgot, Vertovs wife edited
this film and she was very good!

Just a little film history 4 U.

The first one...I had visions of the movie "Earth"( I think that was the title )narrated by Orson Welles. But this one by Coppola looks a little deeper....I'll have to give both a further look-see, C.M. Thanks!

Great stuff. Will do much more exploring of the trilogy through youtube, that's for sure.

What would be great too would be a fourth film based on the Hopi Way (The Way of Balance), more or less summarized in these words:

"The only issue is the individual choice we make.
When events come at us, is when our life gets its meaning.

This is when we do our best, for it is all we can do
to understand the experiences, good or bad, that make our life.

When we leave our own page of history, our best
is all that counts. When the time come to pack,
and we find no room for all we wanted to take along with us to the Underworld, our best is all that counts."

(from Meditations with the Hopi - available through Amazon + excerpts on various websites.)

Have a good one, cm.

tony: U 2!

rlb: Oh yes, the Hopi way. Seems that consumerism has gone awry and consumed us instead ; (

I have a book with the Russian poster at top - it is by the Steinberg brothers, they seem to have been fond of people/machine combos.

What I would love to see is a life IN balance. Is there truly such a thing?

My theory is that we romanticize historical cultures as a way to self-loathe.

Nature is anything but balanced, and we are part of nature. Of course we have to try for balance, we must. It's the way we evolve, but to actually find balance? Hmmmm...

rlb: He was ahead of his time, for sure and unfortunately, due to the time period, had to do things he rather would not have liked to do, ie work for the govt the way he had to. Hmmmmm

d-c: No problem, just threw them out there if anyone is interested.

artS: It was the machine age ; )

reya: Life in Balance would be the ultimate. Sadly, many around us are not on the same quest ; (

brian: Worth seeing and if you get around to it, I'm sure you'd enjoy them.
