time is

B/W photograph: Josef Koudelka 1968 Czechoslovakia
=========================

There is a time for departure,

even when there's no certain place to go.

Tennessee Williams

==============================

Once in awhile, an interesting conversation will
arise and you'll learn something you just never
thought about.

There's a 20 yr old young man who has recently
started speaking a little to me and as of today,
I think his mind has been blown that someone
so old as I, can actually share some of his visions
and perceptions of the world at large and life in
general. His father was laid off 4 months ago as
a long haul driver. 3 siblings are still at home
and one is at Whites for running away from home
numerous times. One brother went to school for
computer related schooling, but, lack of jobs and
opportunities abound in this area of the country.

Sometimes you just have to be glad you have
any job paying any rate at this time and a
roof over your head.

C.M., ain't it the truth? Still working part time but am able to now write more, so maybe something there in the future. And I just got an email from an ol' Navy buddy of mine in Ohio...more layoffs( he was spared...this time )

And I figure if one generation can open a dialogue with another, then that's a good thing. I'm one that'll listen no matter what the age difference. Unless it's coming form the media-LOL!

Too, interesting "quote"; never heard of the author...

its always amazing that youth think we have anything relevant to say or contribute to.

Spoken as the evil step mother of a 16 year old elk/spawn of satan.

subT: Yep, better to pay no attention to the media. They'll have you think everyone is on the mend ; (

As for HVD, I used to have a collection and at one time, the covers with the artwork of Margaret Armstrong, signed, were most collectible. Now, maybe not.

HVD is worth a read ; )

grrl: Funny, as I never felt that way growing up. Out here, everyone is pretty private, unless they want to spread rumors about you ; (

word is out, the economy is turning back around, but jobs will return much much slower....and woe is me, with 3 kids in college, one with loans as long as his arm. What's interesting is that a 20 year old would have anything interesting to say...some of them think they know everything. Ha.

its true, an apt quotation

A good entry, as always. And a beautiful poem. And I dont know why but a quote by Saint Therese comes to mind, "more tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones".
I have a houseful of guests, so all I do is take them around, cook, entertain...

Profound that some of the young actually may listen to the old. Wonderful feeling when it happens, even better when you notice.

I don't have to work for wages. I get a disability check. Doesn't make me rich, but does put that proverbial roof overhead. Some industries are dead, others flourishing. The local coffee shop here is doing really good, but prolly because two others closed their doors this past year, and I'm in a college town!

Any good brew lately? Still devouring old favorites, Double Dark, Sumatra and Yemen from the brew bar. Some Malabar as well from time to time.

Hope all is good with you CM.

Peace above all.

Bonjour Coffee,

Just to tell you I appreciate the words from Tennessee Williams. Everybody feels like this, from time to time.

Something else: Is "Whites" a prison for teenagers or what???

I am glad to hear that you have kept your job. It should be said that when there are 10 percent jobless people this means, too, that there are 90 percent still at work!

Hallo Coffee,

Talking about a roof over one's head, have a look at this blog. There is a description what it means when you have lost it (not the last post but the one before)

Cheers

these are tough times...economically or otherwise. i think the stress is getting to many families. i have had several of the kids i work with out to the hospital (psyche ward) recently. when you can bridge that gen gap..i think there is a lot we can learn from each other.

It's true. In these trying times, we should all be grateful if we have a job and I think the majority are. It may not be the best job or a happy job but when things are tough, just having a job is important. No matter whether or not I liked the particular mgmt for whom I worked, I was always grateful for the job and the health insurance.

I like the montage with the quote. Young people are great for keeping us young.

tom: One thing I do see out here compared to the west coast is, that some kids, like this one, think they have nothing to share, or that no one understands, so they keep everything in. We had this experience at our coffeehouse too and we became friends with a few good kids, because they could talk with us and we'd listen.

lettuce: Thanks....

celeste: Isn't that the truth (your quote).

spado: hello my friend. yes, it seems that since most young people are chatting away with text/computer games, interactions with real people, as we are used too, seem to be far and in between.
We had a single origin Guatemalan Black Cat from Intelligentsia recently and we are now brewing our iced coffee with the Toddy Brewing System. The quality and flavor comes through nicely ; )

Cheers to you and yours and Peace as always back at ya!

georg: Hi ya. No, not a prison, but seems to be a replacement for family if the child isn't able to cope. Been around for over a hundred years and we've known a few people who have worked there.

Thanks for the link and will check the blog out. Cheers!

brian: Truly, in my life I have not ever seen the extent that stress is taking in people like I am today. It's a very sad way to survive ; (

cg: What's insurance? ; (

artS: Funny, never think I'm getting older, unless I look in a mirror, which I avoid at every encounter I have ; )

CM! Long time! Glad I made time for a visit.
What was I thinking going back to school at a time like this?! Scraping along but my daughter and I are ready for another semester. Hopefully things will come back around. It makes me nervous when I get too comfortable anyway.

willow: It's a hard reality to accept. Being in a job that I should be making at least $5.00 more an hr anywhere else, it's even hard to swallow 4 me at this time in my life. But I keep looking ; )

tony: Travel sounds very nice, safe one 4 you and yours ; )

dd: Thanks as always and although I have not read any yet, I did look at one and the writer did work in a coffeehouse in NY I think.

Hi CM,
I found you through One Day At A Time and am wondering __please__ who that fantastic tune "Time Is" is by? (Wow, is that an awkward enough turn of phrase for you? It sure is for ME and I'm an editor, fer gawdsake.)

I enjoy your blog, catching up with it, that is -- and am very happy to be able to tell you I started drinking coffee when I was four and haven't stopped since... YUMMO. Thanks! And have you had 1000 Faces coffee? They make some really good stuff... Aldo's, for one, which I will pick up Sat at the Farmer's Market.
(The media?!? Who says we have a media? Because -- ahem -- we almost don't...)

Candace in Athens.

candace: It's A Beautiful Day and it's off their 1st album.

No, I have never heard of the coffee but will look into it. For now we are brewing our coffee with the Toddy Cold Brewer so might be a chance to try it.

I have a coffee compilation I made and can send you a copy w/IABD if you want them both. Email me with your information and I will get them out next week.

Thanks for stopping by. And having worked at both SF papers before moving out here, alternatives are where you get any real information anymore.

Thanks 4 stopping by!
