I purchased this book a few years ago while in Seattle,but only read a few pages, up to now.
I slipped it into my backpack,
with the following book to read over the last few days.
The gist of it, is, that the ingredients
we need for our lives,
are all out there and inter-related.
Our body is an ingredient.
Our relationships are ingredients.
Our thoughts,
our emotions,
and all our actions
are ingredients.
Seems this was the right time
to have read the book,
because it makes so much
sense and is so very simple.
This book, a novel dealingwith the discovery of chocolate,
also is a time machine story
and philosophical,
which made it a
fun and easy read.
Yes, we went and tried a few other
coffee establishments. Of the 3 we
tried in Dubuque, Iowa, we always
return to Jitterz, who use Badger Coffee.
We have yet had a bad espresso there
in our trips the past 2 yrs.

Certainly the humbleness of cooking ties in to remaining grounded in the physical world and healing the split between the mind and the body.
The idea behind the cook book is very much the idea that lead to my Creative Potager blog and the sprout questions. I just love pulling various essentials together in new ways (people, places, plants and all creative things)

Your use of cooking as a metaphor for life is so fitting, and it really leaves me thinking about the whole interrelationship conundrum. All of the things we do and see, including ourselves, are just ingredients to the whole dish that is the completion of life as evident in its continuation, in which we all partake.

The Zen and the chocolate history book look fascinating Michael! And the entire concept that our relationships are ingredients is another remarkable piece of wisdom. This is a particularly lovely post.
Back here in the NYC area we are now being pulverized with a 12 to 18 inch snowstorm. The roads right now are almosr paralyzed.
sam: Sounds like a lot of film watching 2 me. The book is helpful in so many ways. Importantly, my boss is coming up from NC and it'll be all I can do to keep my mouth shut. Everything I was told when hired, has not occurred.........
