wesley willis - chicago

May 31, 1963 – August 21, 2003

A diagnosed chronic schizophrenic.

from the net

One of his drawings, in which he used ball point pens.

Did not know about him while he was alive,
but would have enjoyed seeing him,
especially when we were so close.

If you get a chance, check out the documentary above.
Sometimes, I wonder, with my having problems
dealing with life, I wonder how it must be for
people like this who obviously have, or
seemingly have no care for what
others think.

wow I kind of had a good darn rant about this topic...dealing with tough times...yes we all have our troubles but some of us just get more help along the way.

I love your quote above it is fabulous!

Hi! C.M.
That was very interesting...I wonder what was the cause of his death?
Thanks, for sharing,
DeeDee ;-(

colette: Yep, amazing, is it not ; (

keith: I think there are some you tube videos of his concerts. This documentary is interesting though, since it shows a few more sides to him. Despite what may have looked "off kilter" to most, inside he had some creativity going on.

dd: Some sort of leukemia I believe. Thanks for stopping by!

First heard of him via the old Dr. Demento Show but didna really explore beyond that. Worth checking out ;)

Like the drawing...

subT: Although he rambled at times, when lucid, he was in very good form. Kinda sad really, that so many people have such problems and can't find a control for it all.
Hope all is well with you!

Not familiar with Wesley Willis but that song has a good I don't give a damn quality to it. I liked it despite that I am a vegetarian! (lol).

subT: Glad to hear you're hanging in there.

john: Aside from drawing which seemed to keep him going, he was in a group, before he went out on his own. The draw I'm sure was his ability to simply say what was on his mind.
