In 1594, priests appealed to Pope Clement V111
to forbid Christians from drinking coffee,
deeming it a "hellish black brew"
created by Satan.
The Pope instead declared:
"Why, this Satan's drink is so delicious
that it would be a pity to let the infidels
have exclusive use of it. We shall cheat
Satan by baptizing it."

Have you seen this film?
The score was by Philip Glass.
The premise? The man has a moustache,
shaves it off, but no one notices.
Which reminded me of the debates,
which I could not endure yet again.
Not to be cynical, but this song is for
those playing the game.

Ah, my morning coffee is way too strong and delicious!
I haven't seen that movie, but I think we can all relate to the premise in some way.
Everyday I've been saying I'm not going to drink any coffee today. I haven't been sleeping well and last time I stopped my sleep was so deep and uninterrupted. I haven't succeeded yet. Just one cup.
I will look for the movie. I was just in the rental store. I hadn't been for so long i thought I would see all kinds of movies that I hadn't seen. No. It was all crap.
I did pick up AWAY FROM HER. Recommend it. And WAITRESS.
every morning, while making my hellish black brew, I think of you now.
I'll see La Moustache soon and I love Philip Glass. Not too many people know his work. We got to see 1000 Airplanes on the Roof in San Diego. It was phenomenal.
I drink one small cup of pretty strong coffee in the morning. My husband only likes starbucks french roast. we need to find an alternative. we've tried a few different things -- organic, fair-trade something or other from the healthfood store. suggestions?
Mmm! "hellish black brew" lovely!
Cathy, my husband is the same way and he buys lots of dark roast kinds - fair trade - I prefer columbian.
CM, I've missed you, been thinking of you. Sorry I've been so sick and not around.
Wishing you much peace as always. Lemme know how you are, what you've been up to.
The debates, voting - I'm discouraged. Just wanna wash my hands of the government....but do want Bush gone - can't wait!
Peace today!
h: The movie was much more interesting and made you think way more than any debates we have presented to us!
mary:Never had that problem, hope you can get through it, although the length of sleep is starting to get shorter! ; ( Will check those out, Thanks!
We have NetFlix, otherwise we'd never see anything either. Stores here are as you mentioned.
squirrel: Ha, Ha, "hellish brew" seems to do that! ; )
cathy: Wow, lucky you about the Glass show. We saw him at Berkeley in the 80s performing the Powaqqatsi score live with the film and then saw him last yr in Chicago performing the Book Of Longing. We keep our eyes peeled. As for coffee, shoot me an email.
ruby: Wow, you're up and around! Thanks for taking the time as always to peek here when you do. If you get better when the weather changes and get out here, remember to let me know. Cheers!
You gotta love Pope C8 for that one!
Bonjour Coffee,
Splendid song from Joe South. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for displaying it.
Some months ago you mentioned yodeling cowboys. Could you give me the link to one of those. I really would like to hear this.
Meanwhile: cheers
Georg
I can not give up coffee...ever..it is not my fault...I lived in Seattle tooooo long...I am effected from that .......it is like a disease....I add Cinniamon and nutmeg to my hellish black brew....
I love anything by Philip Glass....sigh.....
I will look for that movie....
( I love the incense ad too...we have been burning alot...it makes us feel cozy since we don't have a fireplace...)
hR9: The church continues to amaze, don't they? ; (
georg: Thanks and I will email you later today or tomorrow.
e4e: No need to explain eh? ; )
ps I wish i had an interesting burner now that I've seen some of yours (we have a lidded bowl of sand made for incense sticks. it works well, but the burners are prettier)
The Asian statue in my Grojsman post was a gift--she is holding a bottle, so I suppose they thought she was perfume related. Anyway, she is just resin with fakey gold covering, but I like her a lot. Hard to find a quality statue nowadays too--
dcb: Too bad. Maybe somewhere down the line we can remedy that?
