It's a rare occasion when people in our town are
evacuated due to rising water from the river.
This is a back road that does make for
a short cut into town from this way.
The covered bridge in town.
Looking out from within the covered bridge.
In a recent photo you could see most of that sign
in the distance. Now?????

Only a fool tests the depth
of the water with both feet.
African Proverb

Coffee, African proverbs are always interesting and you picked a good one.
Here's two I enjoyed:
It is the calm and silent water that drowns a man.
When you are rich, you are hated; when you are poor, you are despised.
Until the lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter.
Flood is one natural disaster that I hope never to experience (Flood due to Hurricane, rain, whatever--I just couldn't take mold, floors with layers of silt and mud, or sofas that become sponges.) Crumbling hillsides, mudslides, toxic floodwaters, when I see people going through that, I feel like crying.
I have always lived on a hill--a flood once washed away part of the road leading to my house, but my house was high and dry.
Now that I have gone on about that----
I love your blog--the proverbs and coffee, music and history. Thanks.
Now theres a proverb our pundit class could use as a plaque above their desks.
earl: They make more sense than anything our politicians use in their arsenal!
dcb:Seems these days one can't escape the effects of nature. Thanks too for your comments!
fred: Makes more sense to me than anything spewed by our poli-ticians!
Scary stuff.
Earlbo love that last one!
Great photos. That must have been quite a deluge. We missed the storms here in Santa Cruz, but the signs of it are everywhere.
I agree with Mary, that last quote in Earlbo's comment is really great.
That’s a lovely covered bridge. I’ve not be across one of those in years.
There have been flood watches here for the past few days. Since it has been raining hard all day, I fear those watches will turn into warnings.

Glad Kokomo wasn't near that!
I understand that the rain is headed toward Georgia tonight with twister s and all. I'm somewht concerned because I live on a hill and things get a little rough.
Take care and goof luck on the recovery.
Oh my floods are a bit scary and I too like the african proverb. Thanks for visiting my blog.
mary: Surprising here. Not as many floods as pre '70s.
robin: Glad you made the drive up the coast when things were calm.
ssn: Yep, heat a few days ago and now more strange weather.
jde: Thanks for popping by. And the cause you mention is indeed a good one. Let's hope the next generations can bring some Peace to this World.
