Nuts & The Devil

click to enlarge next pics to read

"There are more ways than one to view
the Devil and his works.
With a tender ego, proud of Hell
and anxious for his reputation,
a plotter at once pompous and naive,
who has a way of losing as often as he wins.
Nothing metaphysical here, this devil,
rather, has an all too human nature."

This book was written in 1974.

"The devil brilliantly exploits technology in order to penetrate to the interior of our fortress and manipulate our mechanisms; that is, the determinism and inertia of what is not human drags what is divine in man down as well." - Czesław Miłosz

Being not a believer in god or the devil, I like this story for the farmer's wife who only takes what she needs. Most of us are tempted by lesser things than pearls planted by the supernatural.

kurt: Wonderful quote!

robin: This is a childrens book I found quite awhile back. I truly enjoy reading how people look at life and what people do, and this lady does it well. I keep meaning to pick up the "Devils Other Story Book" too. These 2 are harder to find than her other books.

dcb:It all seems so simple, yet there are those who seem to still want more than others, and seem to not care that others suffer due to their hoarding, be it money or nuts! ; )

Hi, I liked the story, we have a similar one but with acorns.

there is a book called "The Devil Never Sleeps" filled with interesting essays. by Codrescu. I bought it after I heard him interviewed on NPR. Very interesting person.

squirrel: Andrei C is quite insightful. Can't remember the name of the film, but he did one on his coming to the usa I believe that was quite fun.

tony: Perfection? Don't think so, and yes, I too believe there is some good in even the worse people.

hR9: Poor Devil! ; (

Coffee, this one interests me, but Blogger screwed up and lost my comment. I'll be back later to try again.
