We stand now where two roads diverge.

But unlike Robert Frost's familiar poem,
they are not equally fair.

The road we have long been traveling
is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway
on which we progress with great speed,
but at its end lies disaster.

The other fork of the road,
the one less traveled by,
offers our last chance to
reach a destination
that assures the
preservation
of the earth.

Metheny...sweet!

"Rather see wonders of the world abroad than, living dully sluggardized at home, wear out thy youth with shapeless idleness."~~Shakespeare

i LOVE this one, what a great mix of images.

and i wonder, maybe if we look at global population numbers actually the road travelled by those of us in developed nations is probably the less travelled rather than the most.... just the more destructive

Lovely assortment of ideas and meaningful allusions. Now that we're on the subject of Robert Frost, perhaps this one will have some meaning for THIS time of year, no?

"Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

let's take the road that lines our politician's pockets the most.

That's a funky collage...is that track coming from a belly button!?

It's very difficult. blame Ike for the superhighway image; he sent cargo down that route instead of the more efficient trains. It's all in a muddle and the politicians don't care. They pledge allegiance to whichever party will get them elected in their state. The rest of us do the small things, and hope they add up in the long run

an appropriate quote indeed. were it not about the environment it could be about the nation's political climate.

I'm reading & hearing more despair from people. I've always tried to be an optimist but I am having trouble right now. We no longer have Bush to blame either. I feel as tho' we, the people, leave too much up to our elected officials and we neglect to remind them, strongly, whho has the power. They don't. We do.

subT: Thanks.

lettuce: In one way, that could be correct, but in another, I think not.

sam: Thanks for that. Funny about making these, and not naming them. People will see what they will see. I actually made this, not with anything politically minded at all, although more see it that way.

tom: Er, it's going into it ; )

t&t: In that respect you're right.

cg: Despair? I'm on my 3rd yr at this job. When I started, there were 5 people doing what I do. For over a year, there is only me. We received no raise last yr. I just received a raise of .17 hr = $5.44 wk. It's all weak and some companies are certainly taking advantage of the situation. BTW, in order to get another of these hefty raises next year? You have to perform a 3rd job. Oy vey ; (

dd: Thanks.....looks like our best days are behind us ; (

Sunday was World Sound Healing Day and here on Mayne Island 12 women brought together their wisdom in sacred space to walk a labyrinth together and make a commitment to mother earth.

Your post coffee messiah reminds me that these kinds commitments are not universal.

Dennis finds your artwork strangely compelling

hh: Certainly, anyone reading the quote, would think it has to do with that, but why I made it, was on a different level. Confusing, but I like it when people see something other than what made you create a piece in the first place.

terrill: Sadly, it's all catching up, perhaps the world will finally be able to accept, and work hard at changing what we've done up to now. We can only hope.

dennis: Hey, Thanks for stopping by.
